Springheel Joe

As noted in the blog Daily Kos, Democratic Senator Joe Lieberman showed a little more bounce in his step Tuesday night than one might expect, springing up to give George W. a standing O when Dub declared that "we're winning the Iraq war."

Now lots of senators cave to the pressure of their peers and a roomful of cameras, but Joe's leaping performance is astonishing for its timing - as you can see below, Sen. Lieberman was the first among all the legislators of this country to bound to his feet to applaud Dub's dubitable line. Not "the first Democrat" or even "the first Senator" - the first person in the room of 535 senators and representatives to hail to the chief's propaganda. Here's the replay:

That would make a Democratic senator George W. Bush's biggest political hack in the whole "war on terror/you're either with me or against me/bring it on/we don't torture (unless we feel like it)/they'll welcome us as liberators/WMDs? that's all water under the bridge, can't we move on" debacle in Iraq.

Way to go, Joe! I'm feeling just the tiniest bit better now that Al Gore got screwed out of the presidency. Cheney's pretty foul, but it doesn't look like Veep Lieberman would have been a whole lot better.
