Quote of the Week

Having a smoking area in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.

Are you search savvy?

Quick test: Using any method you choose, find each of the following on the web. There is no time limit.
  1. A picture of the Mona Lisa
  2. The complete text of either Robinson Crusoe or David Copperfield
  3. A recipe for applie pie that includes a photograph of the finished product
How'd you do?

If you were able to complete all three missions, you are more search savvy than 85% of the graduate students at Tel Aviv University (according to a 2002 sampling).

Yikes! Even allowing for today's better search technology, and a generally more web-acquainted population, that's still pretty amazing. I was able to pull up all four (I grabbed both novels) in about a minute of searching. Now, I know I'm a geek, but still. Some of those were as simple as clicking on the first link Google offers.

Anyhow, why don't you post your results to the comments section - I'm hopeful that my readership is smarter than the average clickers!

Good for her!

The gossip columns are abuzz over Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima's cover story in the new issue of GQ, where she is proclaimed "The World's Most Voluptuous Virgin." The 24-year-old model is quoted as saying, "Sex is for after marriage. [Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me."

The sad thing is that a quote like that should be gossip- and blog-worthy in the first place. Hats off to Adriana for her healthy approach to sex, and for having the guts to take a position publicly that goes so strongly against the grain of modern American culture.

Maybe I'll actually have to buy a copy of GQ this month. Only for the article, though...

Sermon Sampler: February 26, 2006

Writing to the church he founded in Corinth, Paul says: “We do not proclaim ourselves; we proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your slaves for Jesus’ sake.” Within that one short verse, Paul has packed three things – a warning, an encouragement, and the gospel itself.
